Description |
Human Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells (HBMECs), derived from human brain, are one type of brain endothelial cells and the central element of the microvasculature which forms the blood-brain barrier (BBB). HBMECs limit the passage of soluble and cellular substances from the blood into the brain and shield the brain against toxins and immune cells. Brain microvascular endothelial cells can express cell adhesion molecules on their surface to regulate the extravasation of leukocytes into the brain. However, extracellular host-pathogen interactions can trigger calcium signaling in the endothelial cells, causing pathogen penetration through the BBB. GFP-Human Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells (GFP-HBMECs) and Immortalized Human Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells (IM-HBMECs) are also available in AcceGen. |
