Description

Human Pancreatic Epithelial Cells are isolated from healthy pancreatic tissue and constitute a vital component of the mature pancreas, which features an intricate, branching tubular epithelial network predominantly serving exocrine functions. As the pancreatic epithelium differentiates during late gestation, acinar cells mature at the branch tips, while ductal and endocrine progenitors emerge in the branch stalks. Through delamination, endocrine cells break away from their neighboring epithelial cells and come together to form islets. Simultaneously, the remaining tubular epithelium gives rise to ductal branches. This coordinated growth from a common pre-pancreatic epithelium results in the harmonious integration of both exocrine and endocrine compartments, forming a dual-function organ.

Application

FOR RESEARCH USE ONLY

Human Pancreatic Epithelial Cells find valuable applications in scientific research, particularly in investigating the functional impact of activating point mutations in the K-Ras oncogene, which are prevalent in pancreatic cancer and play a crucial role in its early development. These cells serve as an in vitro model to study the transformation of normal pancreatic epithelial cells into cancerous ones. Additionally, they are utilized to identify potential human pancreatic carcinogens by subjecting them to various factors for exposure analysis.
