Adult Stem Cells are undifferentiated cells that exist in a differentiated tissue that can self-renew and specialize to form the cells that make up this type of tissue. Adult stem cells are found in various tissues and organs of the body. Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are stem cells that can differentiate into whole blood cells. Neural stem cells exist in the nervous system and can produce neurons, astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes through unequal division. Neural stem cells are sufficient to provide a large number of brain tissue cells for self-renewal. Umbilical cord blood contains a large number of stem cells, called umbilical cord stem cells, which are the main source of fetal blood and immune cells.
