B-Lymphoblastoid Cell Lines are EBV-transformed B cells used as antigen-presenting cells for immunological testing and MHC-related functional assays.
B-Lymphoblastoid Cell Lines (BLCLs) are immortalized human B cells typically derived from peripheral blood lymphocytes and transformed by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). These cells originate from human lymphoid tissue and exhibit lymphoblastoid morphology, including large, round nuclei and basophilic cytoplasm. They maintain expression of B cell surface markers such as CD19, CD20, and MHC class II molecules, making them ideal for immunogenetic and functional immune studies. BLCLs also secrete immunoglobulins and retain the ability to present antigens, thus serving as a useful model for antigen processing and presentation pathways in adaptive immunity. The transformative prowess of EBV lies in its ability to convert quiescent B-cells into self-sustaining, immortalized lymphoblastoid cells, retaining the virus in a latent state. This enables B-LCLs to persistently proliferate in vitro, providing valuable tools for research in B cell biology, EBV infection, and immune-related disorders.

BLCLs are essential in immunological research, particularly for antigen presentation, HLA-restriction analysis, and T cell interaction studies. Their robust growth and genetic stability make them ideal for producing hybridomas, performing cytotoxicity assays, and studying EBV-associated transformation. These cells are also utilized in vaccine development, gene expression profiling, and testing immunomodulatory compounds. BLCLs play a central role in modeling immune dysregulation in conditions such as multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and B cell lymphomas.

B-Lymphoblastoid Cell Lines (B-LCL) are immortalized cell lines derived from B lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. These cell lines are created by infecting B cells with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which induces the cells to proliferate indefinitely. B-LCLs are commonly used in research due to their stable growth properties and ability to produce monoclonal antibodies.
B-LCLs are widely used in various areas of biomedical research. They serve as a model system to study B cell biology, immune responses, and genetic disorders. Researchers use B-LCLs for producing monoclonal antibodies, investigating the effects of viral infections, and conducting genetic studies, including gene mapping and identifying disease-associated genetic variants. These cell lines are also valuable in pharmacogenomics for understanding drug responses and personalized medicine.
Immortalization: B-LCLs can proliferate indefinitely, providing a consistent and renewable source of cells for long-term studies.
Genetic Stability: They maintain a stable genetic background, making them suitable for genetic and genomic studies.
This product specifically expresses IgM in the B-Lymphoblastoid Cell Line (B-LCL).
