Bovine Red Blood Cells provide a consistent source of fixed erythrocytes for immunohematology, agglutination studies, and complement activation assays.
Bovine Red Blood Cells (erythrocytes) are primary cells isolated from bovine peripheral blood. As mature, enucleated cells, they exhibit the classic biconcave disc morphology that enhance surface area for efficient gas exchange. These non-proliferative cells lack nuclei and organelles, and function primarily in oxygen and carbon dioxide transport via hemoglobin. They exhibit conserved membrane proteins such as Band 3, glycophorins, and CD47, making them suitable for cross-species comparative studies. Due to their delicate structure, they cannot withstand freeze-thaw cycles. In addition to their fundamental role in transfusion research, bovine RBCs are commonly used in microbiology to assess hemolysin activity in bacterial pathogens. Their robust nature, standardized sourcing, and compatibility with various labeling and agglutination techniques make them a valuable tool for both experimental and diagnostic applications.

Bovine Red Blood Cells are widely used in immunological and biochemical research. They serve as a valuable molecular tool in titrating complement activity, performing adsorption procedures, conducting agglutinins/hemagglutination (HA) assays, and preparing stroma as particulate reagents. Their biological characteristics and stability under experimental conditions make them reliable in various diagnostic and research protocols.
