Description

Human Oligodendrocyte Precursor Cells (OPCs), also known as NG2-glia, are isolated from human fetal or postnatal brain tissue. Under phase contrast, they display a small soma with multiple branched processes. HOPCs display a neuroepithelial-like morphology while retaining expression of HOPC markers including SOX10, PDGFαR, and O4. These cells are particularly valuable for investigating neurogenic transformation processes, such as those occurring after spinal cord injury. These properties make HOPCs valuable for modeling oligodendrocyte maturation, remyelination, and cellular plasticity. They are cryopreserved at an early passage. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • HOPCs serve as an advanced in vitro model for studying oligodendrocyte development, remyelination, and stem cell–like plasticity. They are well-suited for assays testing myelin formation, differentiation dynamics, and neurogenic reprogramming. Their application extends to high-throughput drug screening platforms targeting demyelinating disorders including multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury, where they provide physiologically relevant data for therapeutic development.
