Human lungs are the primary organ for respiration and are clinically relevant to many commonly seen pulmonary diseases such as asthma, pneumonia, and lung cancer. Human lung consists of several different types of cells, including airway epithelial cells (ciliated, basal, goblet, neuroendocrine and Clara cells), alveolar cells (type I cells, type II cells, and fibroblasts in the interstitium) and pulmonary vascular cells (endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, adventitial fibroblasts).
