Characterization: 1.
Fischer 344 (F344) Rat Astrocytes are typically derived from the central nervous system tissues of F344 rats, such as the cerebral cortex or hippocampus. Morphologically, these cells display heterogeneous shapes in culture, commonly appearing as multipolar or fibrous cells, and may adopt polygonal, cobblestone-like morphologies under certain culture conditions. They grow adherently and typically form a confluent monolayer. These cells express specific markers such as glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), functional proteins like aquaporin 4 (AQP4) and glutamine synthetase (GS), and participate in neurotransmitter metabolism, blood-brain barrier maintenance, and ion homeostasis regulation. Their functions include providing nutritional support for neurons, regulating synaptic transmission, participating in neuroinflammatory responses, and clearing metabolic waste. These cells are valuable for studying Fischer rat astrocyte physiology and serve as F344 astrocyte experimental models for investigating neuronal support, neuroinflammation, and central nervous system function. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Fischer 344 (F344) Rat Astrocytes can be utilized to establish models of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, thereby facilitating research on the pathological mechanisms and drug screening. These cells can also be employed to explore the regulatory roles of astrocytes in neuronal regeneration and synaptic remodeling. Additionally, these cells are applicable to studies on the mechanisms of neuroinflammation, shedding light on the functions of glial cells in immune responses.
