GCT cell line provides a reliable in vitro model for germ cell tumor research, supporting oncology studies, drug development, and genetic analysis.
GCT (Giant Cell Tumor, TIB-223) is a human cell line isolated from a lung metastasis of a malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) in a 29-year-old male. The cells exhibit adherent monolayer culture properties. It harbors mutations in BRAF, CDKN2A and TP53, and demonstrates expression of colony stimulating activity (CSA), erythroid enhancing activity (EEA), prostaglandin E, and plasminogen activator. GCT is tumorigenic and shows metastatic capacity in the lung. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

GCT cells serve as an in vitro model for studying the biology of pleomorphic sarcomas, such as malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Its primary applications include investigating cytokine signaling pathways relevant to hematopoiesis and tumor microenvironment interactions. They are utilized in drug screening, and contribute to cancer genomics research within large-scale projects to identify molecular dependencies in osteolytic tumors.
