Fibroblasts are mesenchymal cells derived from the embryonic mesoderm.
Human Dermal Fibroblasts, Fetal (HDF) are isolated from fetal human skin. These fibroblasts are responsible for producing and maintaining the extracellular matrix (ECM), which provides essential structural support to the skin and other connective tissues. HDF also play a critical role in wound healing and tissue repair. These primary human fetal dermal fibroblasts exhibit a characteristic spindle-shaped morphology. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, syphilis, mycoplasma, fungi, yeast, and bacteria. To preserve cell quality, repeated freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided.

Human Dermal Fibroblasts derived from fetal tissue are an essential tool for studying skin development, wound healing, and tissue engineering. These fibroblasts contribute to understanding extracellular matrix production, cell migration, and the repair processes in dermal tissue. Additionally, they are used in toxicology studies and drug screening related to skin fibrosis and scarring, making them crucial for dermatological and regenerative medicine research.
