Description

Human Microvascular Endothelial Cells (HMVECs) are primary cells isolated from microvasculature. They are purified, cultured through early passages, and cryopreserved to maintain physiological relevance. These cells acquire a cobblestone morphology and form tight intercellular junctions when cultured in vitro. These cells express classical endothelial markers—CD31, VE cadherin, and von Willebrand factor. Functionally, HMVECs demonstrate rapid reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton and modulation of tight junctions upon cytokine stimulation, supporting their role in vascular permeability studies. Moreover, lipopolysaccharide exposure triggers ERK1/2 signaling, influencing both inflammatory cytokine release and barrier integrity, making HMVECs a suitable model for sepsis-associated vascular inflammation. HMVECs exhibit a limited lifespan and are not appropriate for indefinite passaging. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • HMVECs are powerful tools for in vitro modeling of microvascular functions, including endothelial barrier dynamics, inflammation, angiogenesis, and leukocyte transmigration. They are widely used to assess cytokine or pathogen-induced permeability (e.g., LPS studies), investigate signaling cascades such as ERK mediated tight junction regulation, and evaluate novel anti-inflammatory or vascular-protective therapeutics. These cells enable researchers to mimic microvascular conditions pertinent to acute lung injury, sepsis, diabetic vasculopathy, and tumor microenvironment studies, providing mechanistic insights and preclinical validation for drug candidates.
