IRR-MRC-5 cell line is a radioresistant fibroblast model used for radiation biology, DNA repair mechanisms, and stress response pathway research.
IRR-MRC-5 is a human irradiated diploid fibroblast feeder cell line derived from the fetal lung fibroblast line MRC-5, originally isolated from lung tissue of a 14-week-old male fetus. IRR-MRC-5 cells retain the fibroblast-like morphology and adherent growth properties of their parent strain. Because they are derived from a normal diploid fetal lung strain, irradiated MRC-5 feeder cells do not exhibit tumorigenicity; instead, they are used to support undifferentiated cell growth in vitro, such as pluripotent stem cell cultures. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

IRR-MRC-5 cells are used mainly as feeder cells in vitro to support the propagation and maintenance of stem cells or other primary cells in an undifferentiated state, providing nutritional and extracellular support without dividing. They are also applied in studies of cell-cell interaction and feeder layer-mediated growth support in stem cell biology and tissue engineering research.
