Mouse DBA/2 lymphoma. Derived from a thymic tumour induced in a DBA/2 mouse by methylcholanthrene. The cells were adapted for in vitro growth.
L5178-Y is a murine T-cell lymphoma cell line derived from a thymic tumor induced by methylcholanthrene in a DBA/2 mouse. These lymphoblast cells grow in suspension and were adapted for long-term in vitro culture, maintaining high proliferative capacity and stable phenotypic characteristics across passages. They serve as a classical model for radiation sensitivity and cytotoxicity studies, particularly in comparative analyses of DNA damage response and survival kinetics. Tumorigenicity is observed in DBA/2 mice. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

L5178-Y is widely used for radiation biology, chemotherapeutic sensitivity assays, mutagenicity, and genotoxicity research, especially in standardized mouse lymphoma testing systems. It provides a resistant counterpart for comparative studies with L5178-S, supporting investigations into DNA damage response, lymphoid tumorigenesis, cell survival kinetics, and anticancer drug evaluation under controlled experimental conditions.
