Laminin is a trimeric basement membrane protein with α, β, γ chains, supporting cell adhesion, stem cell self-renewal, pluripotency, and differentiation.
Laminin is a cruciform trimeric protein composed of α, β, and γ chains. It is a major component of basement membranes and is widely distributed throughout the basement membranes of various tissues in the early embryo and adult life. Laminin possesses multiple cell-binding motifs that bind to cellular integrins and proteoglycans, activating signaling pathways that regulate the self-renewal and pluripotency of pluripotent stem cells. Laminin 521 and laminin 511 are two important isoforms, with potential to maintain the proliferation and specialized differentiation of pluripotent stem cells.
