Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), also known as vascular permeability factor (VPF) and VEGF-A, is a potent mediator of both angiogenesis and vasculogenesis in the fetus and adult.
VEGF165 is the most abundant and biologically active isoform of the VEGF-A family in humans. VEGF121 is a naturally-occurring VEGF-A splice variant containing 165 amino acids, produced from a single human gene as a result of alternative splicing. VEGF165 work as a heparin-binding homodimeric glycoprotein involved in embryonic vasculogenesis and angiogenesis.
