Advance vascular research with Bovine Aortic Smooth Muscle Cells to investigate large artery function, contractility, and smooth muscle cell behavior.
Bovine Aortic Smooth Muscle Cells (BASMCs) are isolated from the aortic tissues of healthy cattle. Morphologically, these cells exhibit a spindle-shaped appearance, with an oval-shaped nucleus. They grow in an adherent manner and are capable of proliferation and expansion under suitable culture conditions. These cells express characteristic proteins of smooth muscle cells, such as alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA). BASMCs play a crucial role in the cardiovascular system. They participate in the contraction and relaxation of blood vessel walls, thereby maintaining normal physiological functions of the vessels. Additionally, BASMCs are involved in the repair and remodeling processes of the vascular wall. Furthermore, they serve as a valuable in vitro model to study extracellular interactions of bovine aortic smooth muscle cells and to elucidate mechanisms underlying vascular injury responses. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Bovine Aortic Smooth Muscle Cells can be used to explore the molecular mechanisms of vascular contraction and relaxation, including studying the effects of vasoactive substances such as nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) on smooth muscle function. In pathological studies, they can be used to simulate disease processes such as atherosclerosis, vascular calcification, and hypertension, such as inducing foam cell formation through oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) or establishing a vascular media calcification model through β-glycerophosphate treatment.
