Bovine Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells (BBMVEC) are isolated from microvessels of bovine brain.
Bovine Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells are endothelial cells derived from bovine brain microvessels, which constitute the core structural unit of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Morphologically, these cells are typical paving stone-like polygonal or fusiform, with large and clear nuclei. They express endothelial markers such as CD31 and vWF, which are important for identifying their vascular endothelial characteristics and support their barrier-related phenotype within the BBB. Functionally, Bovine Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells contribute to the selective permeability of the BBB and participate in neuroimmune regulation, including mediating interactions with immune cells under pathological or stimulus-induced conditions. At the molecular and cellular levels, these cells exhibit features closely associated with bovine brain vasculature endothelial function, while maintaining characteristic profiles of bovine endothelial cell surface markers that define their endothelial identity. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Bovine Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells can be used to study the mechanisms of drug permeation across the blood–brain barrier (BBB) and evaluate factors influencing molecular transport. These cells are also suitable for investigating BBB disruption mechanisms during central nervous system inflammation, as well as assessing the impact of inflammatory stimuli on BBB permeability.
