Description

Caspase-3 is the primary terminal protease in apoptosis and the most widely studied caspase. It activates pro-caspase-2, 6, 7, and 9, specifically hydrolyzing several key apoptotic proteins, such as PARP, mediating chromatin condensation, apoptotic body formation, and nuclear DNA fragmentation. The assay is based on the specific hydrolysis of the peptide substrate DEVD-pNA (Asp-Glu-Val-Asp-p-nitroanilide) by caspase-3. The released free nitroanilide pNA has a maximum absorbance at 405 nm.
