Caspase-4 is an enzyme that in human is encoded by the CASP4 gene, specifically hydrolyzes the peptide substrate LEVD-pNA (Leu-Glu-Val-Asp-p-nitroanilide).
Caspases are a family of proteases involved in apoptosis, encompassing over ten members. Caspase-4 interacts with Apaf-1 and participates in cytochrome c-induced caspase-3 activation. It also interacts with caspase-14. Assay principle: Caspase-4 specifically hydrolyzes the peptide substrate LEVD-pNA (Leu-Glu-Val-Asp-p-nitroanilide), releasing free nitroanilide (pNA) with a maximum absorbance at 405 nm.
