Dansylcadaverine (MDC) is a fluorescent dye and an eosinophilic stain. It is commonly used as a specific marker for detecting autophagosome formation.
Autophagy is the process by which cells, upon response to stimulation, engulf their own cytoplasm or organelles, ultimately degrading the engulfed material within lysosomes. Autophagosomes are double-membrane-bound, round or oval structures containing cytoplasm, long-lived proteins and abnormal protein aggregates, damaged or redundant organelles such as mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum, and microbodies, as well as viruses and bacteria.
Dansylcadaverine (MDC) is a fluorescent dye and an eosinophilic stain. It is commonly used as a specific marker for detecting autophagosome formation. Its excitation filter wavelength is 355-380 nm, and its blocking filter wavelength is 512-530 nm. MDC staining solution is suitable for fluorescent autophagy staining in cultured cells and can also be used to monitor the rate of autophagy in cells using FACS. It can be used in combination with EB for double staining.
