Established from a pleural biopsy of a 62-year-old man with malignant mesothelioma
DM-3 is a cell line derived from a pleural biopsy of a 62-year-old man with malignant mesothelioma. There is classification controversy surrounding this cell line. Although still annotated as a pleural sarcomatoid mesothelioma cell line, various omics analyses indicate fibroblast-like characteristics. DM-3 cells are adherent, sarcomatoid cells that grow in monolayers. Karyotypic analysis of DM-3 cells reveals complex chromosomal aberrations, including aneuploidy and structural rearrangements, consistent with the genomic instability observed in mesothelioma. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

DM-3 is widely used in cancer research, particularly for studying the molecular mechanisms, drug resistance, and therapeutic strategies for malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). Its epithelial-like morphology and expression of mesothelioma-specific markers (e.g., calretinin, WT-1) make it a valuable model for in vitro and in vivo studies of cellular proliferation, invasion, and metastatic behavior. Biological studies using DM-3 further support investigations into cell signaling, proliferation, and tumor behavior, providing insights into mesothelioma pathophysiology and experimental therapeutics.
