Rat glioma. The GS-9L rat glioma cell line was derived from a N-nitrosomethylurea-induced tumour.
GS‑9L is a gliosarcoma rat glioma cell line derived from a N‑nitrosomethylurea‑induced brain tumor in Fischer 344 rats. The cells grow as adherent monolayers forming dense networks at confluence and are commonly employed for transplantation experiments involving gliosarcoma formation. It demonstrates high constitutive expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and S100β. GS-9L is highly tumorigenic, forming aggressive intracranial tumors in vivo. Its aggressive growth and reliable tumorigenicity in syngeneic rat models make it ideal for testing drug efficacy and tumor-host interactions in vivo. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

GS-9L rat glioma cells serve as an immunocompetent syngeneic model to study blood-brain barrier penetration and temozolomide resistance mechanisms. They enable in vivo chemotherapy efficacy screening and tumor microenvironment analysis through quantification of VEGF-mediated angiogenesis and microglia infiltration. This system facilitates immunotherapy response testing and 3D spheroid invasion modeling, accelerating therapeutic development for glioblastoma with intact immune interactions.
