Human newborn foreskin. Donor was suspected of suffering Canavan disease, a deficiency in aspartoacyclase. Cells can be propagated for up to 42 passages.
Hs 68 is a fibroblast cell line derived from the foreskin of a Caucasian male patient with asparagine synthetase deficiency. These cells exhibit a spindle-shaped fibroblastic morphology, grow as an adherent monolayer, and display contact inhibition. Karyotypic analysis indicates that Hs 68 is a normal human cell line with a 46, XY karyotype. The modal chromosome number is 46, with polyploidy observed in 3.6% of cells. Both X and Y chromosomes are clearly identifiable. This cell line is frequently used in studies of fibroblast biology, wound healing, extracellular matrix interactions, and cytotoxicity testing. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Hs 68 cells are a well-established model in dermatological and toxicological studies. They are extensively used for investigating cellular aging, oxidative stress, wound repair, and extracellular matrix production. These fibroblasts also serve as a non-tumorigenic control in cancer research, particularly for assessing cytotoxic effects of novel compounds in skin biology and regenerative medicine applications.
