Description

Huh-1 is a human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell line derived from the liver tumor of a 56-year-old male patient. These cells exhibit epithelial morphology and retain hepatocyte-like features, such as expression of albumin (ALB) and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP). Huh-1 cells are classified as a poorly differentiated HCC subtype, and they harbor mutation on AXIN1 and TP53 and exhibit abnormal chromosome numbers and structure, which are frequently associated with aggressive liver cancer phenotypes. Huh-1 demonstrates tumorigenicity in immunodeficient mouse models and is particularly suitable for studying hepatocyte transformation, liver tumor progression, and drug response mechanisms in HCC. Similar to Huh7 cells, Huh-1 retains key hepatocellular characteristics and is widely used as an in vitro model for studying hepatocyte-derived tumor biology and drug response in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Application

  • Huh-1 cell line is widely used to explore key signaling pathways in liver cancer, such as abnormal activation of Wnt/β-catenin, PI3K/AKT and MAPK pathways, and the effects of tumor suppressor gene (such as TP53) mutations on tumor progression. In addition, this cell line can be used to study the metastasis mechanism of liver cancer, especially the regulatory role of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and angiogenesis-related factors.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are huH-1 cells?

huH-1 cells were originally isolated from liver of hepatocellular carcinoma, HBs-antigen carrier patient. Modal chromosome number is 69.

  • What culture medium is recommended for huH-1 cells?

The culture medium recommended for huH-1 cells is composed of High Glucose DMEM supplemented with appropriate additives to support optimal cell growth and maintenance, add 10% FBS.

  • Is virus DNA detected in huH-1 cell line?

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is detected in the huH-1 cell line with a high transcriptional activity. The huH-1 is one of the cell lines that used extensively to study HBV and carcinogenesis, as HBV integration is a risk factor that has been associated with HBV chronicity and hepatocellular carcinoma
