Description

Human Esophageal Microvascular Endothelial Cells (HEMEC) are adherent, cobblestone-appearing cells isolated from normal human esophageal tissue obtained from healthy donors. As endothelial cells of the esophageal microvasculature, they function as critical gatekeepers in inflammation by regulating leukocyte adhesion and transmigration through expression of adhesion molecules (e.g., ICAM-1, VCAM-1, E-selectin) in response to inflammatory cytokines. HEMEC maintain endothelial marker expression, including CD31, VE-cadherin, and von Willebrand factor (vWF), confirming their identity and vessel-specific function. Their stable morphology and functional responsiveness make HEMEC a reliable model for esophageal microvascular biology, inflammation, angiogenesis, and immune cell trafficking research. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures and is tested to ensure it is free from contamination by HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • HEMEC are ideal for investigating microvascular dynamics in the esophagus, including endothelial barrier integrity, leukocyte-endothelium interactions, and cytokine-driven inflammation models. Researchers use HEMEC to study angiogenesis, vascular remodeling, and signaling cascades in response to growth factors like VEGF and pro-inflammatory stimuli. These cells also enable drug screening for anti-inflammatory agents, vascular-protective compounds, and targeted delivery mechanisms across activated microvessels in preclinical studies.
