Description

Human Gastric Smooth Muscle Cells (HGSMC) are adherent, spindle-shaped contractile cells isolated from healthy adult human stomach tissue. As visceral smooth muscle in the gastric wall, they express α-smooth muscle actin and desmin. HGSMC mediate gastric motility through intracellular Ca²⁺ signaling, G-protein activation, PKCε pathways, and voltage-dependent sodium currents, while also expressing endothelin (ET) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), which contribute to plateau potential generation. Their morphology, marker profile, and electrophysiological traits make them ideally suited for gastric motility and smooth muscle research. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures and is tested to ensure it is free from contamination by HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • HGSMC provide a robust in vitro model for investigating gastric contractility, electrophysiology, and signal transduction mechanisms involving Ca²⁺, sodium currents, ET, and eNOS pathways. They are widely used in studies of gastrointestinal motility disorders such as gastroparesis and functional dyspepsia, enabling screening of smooth muscle-modulating drugs, ion channel regulators, and contractility modifiers. These cells also support tissue engineering and co-culture systems aimed at understanding gastric physiology and drug responses.
