Human Lens Epithelial Cells from AcceGen Research Laboratories are isolated from the human lens.
Human Lens Epithelial Cells (HLEpiC) are primary epithelial cells isolated from normal human lens tissue. HLEpiC exhibit a classic epithelial morphology and are characterized by strong cytoplasmic expression of cytokeratin-18. These cells model the anterior lens capsule’s monolayer, playing key roles in lens homeostasis, ion transport, and oxidative stress response. They are widely used to study cataract formation, lens aging, and diabetic ocular complications. To ensure the quality of these primary cells, repeated freeze-thaw cycles are not recommended due to the fragile nature of these cells. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Human Lens Epithelial Cells (HLEpiC) are ideal for investigating cataractogenesis, oxidative damage in ocular tissues, and the molecular mechanisms of lens aging or diabetic eye disease. HLEpiC Also useful in drug toxicity screening targeting the lens. These cells are generally applied in different experimental contexts and are considered a reliable in vitro model for related ophthalmic studies.
