Description

Human Mammary Epithelial Cells (HMECs), Female, are primary cells isolated from healthy elective reduction mammoplasty tissue. These epithelial cells display classic cobblestone morphology, forming tight monolayers and expressing CK18 and E-cadherin, reflecting their heterogeneous lineage identity. Their ability to form mammospheres in suspension culture suggests enrichment of cells with progenitor-like behavior in vitro. These primary female breast epithelial cells are cryopreserved at an early passage to preserve physiological relevance. Due to their non-transformed nature, HMECs have a finite lifespan and are unsuitable for indefinite passaging. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Female HMECs are a versatile in vitro model for investigating hormonal regulation, mammary gland development, and premalignant oncogenic events. Researchers use them for 3D acinar morphogenesis assays, carcinogen screening, and studying prolactin-mediated signaling—critical in modeling lobuloalveolar expansion. These cells also support the preclinical evaluation of therapeutics targeting early-stage breast carcinogenesis pathways.
