Description

Human Mammary Epithelial Cells (HMECs), Male, are primary epithelial cells isolated from adult human breast ducts and lobules. They are cryopreserved at an early passage to preserve native characteristics. These cells grow in adherent monolayers, displaying a distinct cobblestone morphology and forming tight junctions, characteristic of functional epithelial barriers. HMECs express hallmark keratin CK18, demonstrating their bipotent differentiation potential. These male human mammary epithelial cells exhibit a finite replicative lifespan and are not suitable for long-term culture. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • HMECs support diverse breast biology research including deciphering developmental processes (e.g. ductal branching, lactation) and modeling early-stage carcinogenesis. They are ideal for constructing 3D organoid systems, studying hormone signaling, and screening carcinogens or therapeutic agents. The presence of both luminal and basal cell compartments allows investigations into epithelial cell hierarchy and epithelial–mesenchymal transitions relevant to breast cancer initiation and progression. They serve as a valuable comparator to malignant cell lines, enabling more physiologically relevant assessment of tumor-specific changes and treatment responses in vitro.
