Description

Human Mammary Luminal Epithelial Cells (HMLECs) are isolated from healthy adult female breast tissue, specifically from the inner luminal layer of ducts and lobules. Following tissue dissociation, luminal cells are isolated and cryopreserved at an early passage. These primary cells exhibit typical cuboidal-to-columnar morphology, form tight junctions in monolayer culture, and demonstrate robust responses to hormonal cues such as 17β-estradiol and prolactin. In culture, HMLECs maintain luminal lineage identity for several passages. They express hallmark markers including E-cadherin (CDH1) and CK8/18 (KRT8/18). Due to their primary nature, these cells exhibit limited proliferative capacity and are not recommended for extended passaging to preserve physiological relevance. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • HMLECs from AcceGen provide an authentic in vitro model for investigating mammary gland biology, epithelial barrier formation, and lactational secretory differentiation. They are well-suited for probing hormone-regulated signal transduction, cell cell adhesion dynamics, and early transformation events relevant to luminal breast cancer. These cells can be cultured in both 2D and 3D platforms, offering valuable systems for drug screening, toxicology assessments, and luminal progenitor lineage studies, including their potential plasticity toward myoepithelial phenotypes.
