Parathyroid Cells

Description

Human parathyroid cells are derived from human parathyroid gland tissue. Following the primary culture, these cells are cryopreserved. Parathyroid cells are responsible for the synthesis and secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH), which plays a critical role in calcium and phosphate homeostasis. Studies have shown that dysfunction of parathyroid cells is associated with disorders such as hyperparathyroidism and hypoparathyroidism. Human parathyroid cells are often characterized by the expression of PTH and chromogranin A. In vitro, these cells do not proliferate and cannot be passaged, and it should be avoided repeated freezing and thawing during culture.

Application

  • Parathyroid cells are valuable for experimental studies on parathyroid hormone (PTH) regulation, especially since the precise control and molecular mechanisms of PTH secretion remain unclear. These cells are also instrumental in studying parathyroid differentiation and development, offering significant insights for identifying potential therapies and drugs targeting parathyroid-related disorders.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are Human Parathyroid Cells?

Human parathyroid cells are specialized cells located in the parathyroid glands, which are small endocrine glands situated behind the thyroid gland. These cells play a crucial role in regulating calcium levels in the blood by secreting parathyroid hormone (PTH).

  • What is the primary function of parathyroid hormone (PTH)?

PTH regulates calcium and phosphate levels in the blood. It increases blood calcium levels by stimulating the release of calcium from bones, increasing calcium absorption in the intestines, and promoting calcium reabsorption in the kidneys.

  • What are the primary applications of human parathyroid cells in research?

These cells are used in various research applications including studies on calcium homeostasis, bone metabolism, endocrine function, and the development of treatments for parathyroid-related disorders such as hyperparathyroidism and hypoparathyroidism.

  • What are the key markers used to identify human parathyroid cells?

Key markers for human parathyroid cells include parathyroid hormone (PTH) and calcium-sensing receptors (CaSR). These markers are used to confirm the identity and purity of the cells in research studies.
