Description

Human Placental Epithelial Cells, Foetal (HPEC-f) are primary cells isolated from the amniotic epithelium of term fetal membranes. These epithelial cells are characterized by tight intercellular junctions and a cuboidal to polygonal morphology in culture. They express epithelial lineage markers such as cytokeratin 7 and E cadherin alongside pluripotency-associated proteins SSEA 4 and Oct 4 Their immunophenotype (CD90-/CD105-, HLA-ABC+/HLA-DR-) clearly distinguishes them from placental mesenchymal cells. They are cryopreserved at an early passage, possess a limited proliferative capacity, and are not suitable for long-term passaging. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Fetal human placental epithelial cells are well-suited for studies in developmental biology, regenerative medicine, and immunomodulation. They provide an in vitro platform to explore epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) processes. They also serve as a critical tool in wound healing assays and in screening agents that either protect epithelial integrity or influence trophoblast differentiation. Their non tumorigenic yet progenitor-like nature also makes them valuable for safety assessments in placental transplantation and drug delivery research.
