Description

Human prostate fibroblasts (HPF) are primary stromal cells derived from non-malignant prostate tissue, exhibiting characteristic bipolar, spindle-shaped morphology with robust adherence in culture. They play a crucial role in prostate physiology by producing extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins such as collagen I/III and fibronectin, and secretion of growth factors like bFGF, TGF β, IGFs, and KGF that mediate epithelial–stromal interactions. Immunophenotypically, they typically express vimentin while remaining α-SMA negative unless activated. In prostate cancer research, fibroblasts from different zones can enhance tumor progression and castration resistance through paracrine effects in co culture models. These cells have a limited proliferative capacity and are unsuitable for indefinite passaging. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Primary human prostate fibroblasts provide a robust in vitro platform to study stromal–epithelial crosstalk, remodeling of the tumor microenvironment, and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). They are particularly useful in co-culture systems to investigate how stromal signals drive cancer progression, resistance to androgen deprivation, and matrix remodeling. These cells are also applicable in screening candidate drugs targeting stromal activation or tumor-stroma interactions.
