Description

Human Pulmonary Fibroblasts (HPF) are primary mesenchymal cells isolated from normal human lung parenchyma. These adherent, spindle-shaped cells exhibit a typical fibroblastic morphology and are maintained at early passage to preserve native phenotypes. HPFs express markers such as vimentin and fibronectin, with context-dependent expression of α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) depending on activation status. These cells are capable of synthesizing extracellular matrix components (e.g., collagen I, III, elastin) and respond robustly to profibrotic stimuli like TGF-β1. Their proliferative and migratory capacities make them valuable for modeling tissue repair and fibrosis. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Human Pulmonary Fibroblasts (HPFs), also known as primary human lung fibroblasts or human respiratory stromal cells, are widely used in pulmonary fibrosis research, including studies on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), fibroblast-to-myofibroblast transition, and ECM remodeling. They serve as a platform to investigate signaling pathways like TGF-β/SMAD, Wnt/β-catenin, and MAPK, which are central to fibrotic lung disease. HPFs are also valuable in drug discovery for testing anti-fibrotic agents. In co-culture or 3D models, HPFs enable investigation of fibroblast–epithelial–immune cell crosstalk, modeling chronic lung disease, tissue regeneration, and lung cancer–associated stroma.
