Human Pulmonary Fibroblasts (HPFs), also known as primary human lung fibroblasts or human respiratory stromal cells, are widely used in pulmonary fibrosis research, including studies on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), fibroblast-to-myofibroblast transition, and ECM remodeling. They serve as a platform to investigate signaling pathways like TGF-β/SMAD, Wnt/β-catenin, and MAPK, which are central to fibrotic lung disease. HPFs are also valuable in drug discovery for testing anti-fibrotic agents. In co-culture or 3D models, HPFs enable investigation of fibroblast–epithelial–immune cell crosstalk, modeling chronic lung disease, tissue regeneration, and lung cancer–associated stroma.
