Description

Human Retinal Microvascular Endothelial Cells (HRMVECs) are primary endothelial cells isolated from the microvascular capillary network of healthy human retina tissue. These adherent, cobblestone-shaped cells are cryopreserved at early passage and exhibit high proliferative capacity. HRMVECs express endothelial markers including CD31 (PECAM-1), VE-cadherin, von Willebrand factor (vWF), and VEGFR2, and functionally demonstrate LDL uptake and lectin binding. They maintain expression of blood-retinal barrier components, including claudin-5, occludin, and ZO-1. HRMVECs are responsive to VEGF, TNF-α, high glucose, and oxidative stress, making them an ideal in vitro model for microvascular dysfunction. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Human Retinal Microvascular Endothelial Cells (HRMVECs) are critical for studying diabetic retinopathy, retinal neovascularization, blood-retinal barrier integrity, and retinal inflammation within the retinal microvascular system. They support angiogenesis and permeability assays, leukocyte adhesion models, and screening of anti-VEGF and anti-inflammatory therapeutics. HRMVECs are also used in advanced retina-on-chip, 3D microvascular constructs, and hypoxia-induced vascular remodeling models.
