IST-MES1 is a human pleural epithelioid mesothelioma tumor cell line originally isolated from pleural effusion of a 70-year-old Caucasian female patient with mesothelioma, a malignant tumor of the pleural lining associated with asbestos exposure. IST-MES1 cells exhibit epithelial-like morphology and grow as adherent monolayers under standard culture conditions. Cytogenetic and genomic profiling indicates it is microsatellite stable (MSS). IST MES1 cell line produces cytokines such as IL-6 and TGF-β2 and may expresses markers such as CAM5.2 and HBME-1. As a malignant tumor model, this line is suitable for investigations into mesothelioma biology, tumor-associated signaling, and therapeutic screening. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.
