JEG-3 is a human choriocarcinoma cell line widely used in placental tumor research, hormone production studies, and epithelial differentiation models.
JEG-3 is a human choriocarcinoma tumor cell line derived from placental trophoblast cells of a female donor and widely utilized as a malignant trophoblastic cancer model. The cells exhibit epithelial-like morphology with adherent growth properties, forming compact epithelial layers in vitro and retaining trophoblast-associated features. Functionally, JEG-3 cells express and secrete placental hormones such as human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) at high levels relative to other choriocarcinoma models, consistent with trophoblast endocrine activity and hormone regulation pathways. JEG-3 has also been used to study immune interactions and regulatory T-cell modulation via HLA-G expression relevant to tumor-immune interface mechanisms. Cytogenetic analyses confirm aneuploid human karyotypes typical of choriocarcinoma origin. The cells undergo rigorous screening and quality control procedures and are tested to confirm the absence of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

JEG-3 is widely used as an in vitro model of human choriocarcinoma and placental tumor biology, particularly for investigating trophoblast hormone expression, secretion regulation, and trophoblast-associated signaling pathways. It is suitable for drug screening and sensitivity studies relevant to gestational trophoblastic tumors and endocrine regulation mechanisms. JEG-3 also supports research into tumor-immune interactions and cytokine modulation via HLA-G and related pathways, aiding studies of immune tolerance at the feto-maternal interface.
