Description

Porcine Corneal Epithelial Cells (PCEC) are primary epithelial cells isolated from the anterior corneal tissue of healthy swine. This transparent and avascular tissue provides a unique source of stratified squamous epithelial cells. These cells are harvested under sterile conditions, display polygonal morphology, and grow as adherent monolayers. Derived from normal tissue with no associated disease, they are cryopreserved at early passage to retain physiological properties. PCEC contribute to epithelial barrier formation, mucin secretion, and immune defense on the ocular surface. They exhibit diploid karyotype stability and express key epithelial markers such as cytokeratin 3/12 and ZO-1. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures and is tested to ensure it is free from contamination by Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.
