Stem cell factor (SCF), also known as mast cell growth factor (MGF), is a pleiotropic cellular factor in neural cell development and hematopoiesis.
Stem cell factor (SCF) is a cytokine produced, secreted by fibroblasts and endothelial cells. SCF is a ligand that binds to its receptor, c-Kit. These are essential signaling components that regulate various physiological processes, including pigment production, fertility, and vessel formation (vasculogenesis). Upon binding to its receptor, the PI3K, JAK/STAT, and MAPK pathways are activated. SCF also acts collaboratively with growth factors (e.g., EPO, IL-3) to drive myeloid, erythroid, and lymphoid development.
