SW 872 cell line provides a human liposarcoma model widely used in cancer biology to study adipogenesis, tumorigenesis, and drug screening applications.
The SW 872 cell line was initiated by A. Leibovitz in 1974 at the Scott and White Clinic, Temple, Texas from a surgical specimen of a fibrosarcoma removed from a 36 year old male Caucasian.The histopathology evaluation reported an undifferentiated malignant tumor consistent with liposarcoma.
