Compared to Tex Red, Tex Red-X dye has an additional 7-atom aminohexanoyl spacer between the fluorophore and the carboxyl group, which helps separate the fluorophore from its attachment point, thereby reducing the interaction between the fluorophore and the conjugated biological molecule. It is often coupled to antibodies and proteins for cell imaging.
