Description

BALB/3T3 clone A31 is a murine fibroblast-like cell line derived from the primary embryonic tissue of a BALB/c mouse. Developed through repeated subculturing of 3T3 cells under defined conditions, the A31 clone is known for its stable growth kinetics and contact inhibition properties. These cells display an elongated fibroblast morphology and grow as an adherent monolayer, forming a uniform, contact-inhibited sheet in confluent cultures. Cytogenetic analysis reveals a near-diploid karyotype with occasional chromosomal abnormalities, supporting their use in transformation and oncogenicity assays. While not inherently tumorigenic, A31 cells are highly susceptible to transformation by chemical carcinogens or oncogenes, and have been extensively employed in cellular transformation and anchorage-independent growth assays. The cells undergo stringent screening and testing procedures to ensure they are free from contamination by Mycoplasma, fungi, yeast, and bacteria.
