Mouse Intestinal Smooth Muscle Cells from AcceGen are isolated from tissue of pathogen-free laboratory mice.
C57BL/6 Mouse Intestinal Smooth Muscle Cells are primary cells isolated from the intestinal tissue of pathogen-free laboratory mice, serving as a classic model for investigating smooth muscle function in mouse gut. These intestinal muscle cells reside within the muscular layers of the intestinal wall, specifically in the inner circular muscle layer and the outer longitudinal muscle layer. Following primary culture, these cells are cryopreserved. The cells regulate peristaltic movements through Ca2+-dependent contraction, maintain intestinal wall structural integrity and actively facilitate immune modulation through cytokine secretion. Studies have demonstrated their involvement in intestinal obstruction, inflammatory bowel disease, and fibrotic strictures via TGF-β1/Smad3-driven collagen deposition. Phenotypic validation is confirmed by α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), demonstrating their contractile function. For optimal performance, repeated freezing and thawing should be avoided during culture. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

C57BL/6 Mouse Intestinal Smooth Muscle Cells can be used as an in vitro model to study the pathogenesis of gastrointestinal motility disorders in disease conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction. Researchers can investigate disease mechanisms including calcium signaling abnormalities, contractile dysfunction, and immune cell-mediated neural damage in IBD. The cells are particularly valuable for studying TGF-β1/Smad3-driven fibrotic pathways that lead to stricture formation. These applications support the development of targeted therapies to restore peristalsis and reduce fibrotic structuring.
