Isolated from postnatal day 8 C57BL/6 mouse sciatic nerves.
CD57 Mouse Schwann Cells are isolated from the peripheral nerve tissue of healthy C57BL/6 mice. Schwann cells are glial cells of the peripheral nervous system (PNS) responsible for myelination of axons and nerve regeneration. The passage number is generally limited to maintain cell viability and phenotype. Cells exhibit spindle-shaped morphology and grow in bipolar or tripolar patterns forming typical Schwann cell networks. Schwann cells play a critical role in the maintenance and regeneration of peripheral nerves and are key participants in Wallerian degeneration following nerve injury. They also contribute to inflammatory responses in peripheral neuropathies and demyelinating disorders, including Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and Guillain-Barré syndrome. Immunophenotypically, Schwann cells are commonly identified by the expression of markers such as S100β, GFAP, and p75NTR. These cells exhibit limited proliferative capacity in vitro, requiring careful handling and passage control. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.
