The whole blood is aseptically collected and prepared to order from our colony of animals.
Chicken Red Blood Cells (CRBCs) are isolated from the peripheral blood of healthy adult chickens. These cells are unique among vertebrates in that they retain their nuclei even in the mature stage, offering a valuable model for studying gene regulation in erythrocytes. CRBCs have been utilized in a variety of research contexts, including host-pathogen interactions, immunology, and toxicology. Morphologically, CRBCs are oval-shaped, biconvex, and non-proliferative under in vitro conditions. These cells are typically cryopreserved immediately after isolation and should not be subjected to repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Nucleated erythrocytes retain intact nuclei, providing a unique model for studying erythroid gene expression. They express erythroid-specific markers such as hemoglobin and glycophorin, verified by immunostaining. Importantly, they are free of avian leukosis virus (ALV) and Marek’s disease virus (MDV), ensuring biosafety in laboratory applications. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Chicken Red Blood Cells are widely used in chicken blood cell research, including complement activity studies, lectin binding tests, and hemagglutination assays. In virology research, they serve as an ideal model for quantifying viral titers, such as in influenza hemagglutination inhibition assays. Their nucleated nature makes them suitable for exploring erythroid gene expression dynamics and cellular stress signaling pathways. Overall, CRBCs are a versatile tool in avian biology, toxicology, and immunopathogenesis research. CRBCs serve as an excellent model for investigating nuclear RNA processing and epigenetic regulation in mature erythrocytes.
