Human malignant melanoma. Derived from a brain metastasis of a 62 year old male with melanoma. The cells bleb during culture.
COLO-792 cells are derived from a brain metastasis of a 62-year-old male with melanoma. The cells exhibit epithelial-like properties and typical polygonal shape with distinct cell borders and prominent nucleoli, adhering to the culture substrate in a monolayer pattern. COLO-792 cells demonstrate high metastatic potential, with transcriptomic analyses revealing embryonic-like reprogramming pathways that enhance invasive capacity. COLO-792 cells show regulation of PGC-1α expression under epigenetic modulation. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

COLO-792 is widely used in melanoma research due to its metastatic origin and aggressive phenotype. Primarily, it serves as an in vitro model for studying tumor progression, metastasis, and cellular responses, particularly in the context of brain metastasis. This cell line also supports in vitro studies on biomarker expression and tumor biology. In melanoma studies, COLO-792 is often used alongside the A2058 cell line to investigate tumor cell behavior, signaling pathways, and responses to experimental compounds in vitro.
