Explore FTC-133 to study follicular thyroid carcinoma metastasis, tumor biology, and lymphatic spread in thyroid cancer-related applications.
FTC (follicular thyroid carcinoma)-133 is a human follicular thyroid carcinoma cell line originally isolated from a metastatic lymph node of a 42-year-old male. This carcinoma-derived epithelial cell line exhibits polymorphic morphology ranging from flat polygonal to spindle-shaped cells. Cytogenetic analysis reveals complex chromosomal changes with p53 mutation. Thyroglobulin immunoreactivity could be shown in the cytoplasm and EGF receptor immunoreactivity could be visualised on the cell membranes. FTC-133 demonstrates moderate tumorigenicity. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

FTC-133 serves as a critical in vitro model for investigating thyroid cancer biology and evaluating therapeutic interventions. Its primary applications include studying the molecular mechanisms underlying thyroid tumorigenesis, progression, and metastasis. FTC-133 is extensively utilized in drug screening for potential anti-cancer compounds targeting thyroid malignancies and has been employed in specialized research, such as assessing cell behavior and spheroid formation under microgravity conditions during spaceflight missions.
