HepG2/C3A cell line provides a hepatocyte model for liver metabolism, drug discovery, toxicity testing, and studies of hepatic cellular functions.
HepG2/C3A is a clonal derivative of the human hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 cell line, originally established from a male. This cell line displays classic epithelial morphology and grows as tightly adherent monolayers. This subclone produces high levels of liver-specific proteins such as albumin, alpha-fetoprotein, fibrinogen, and transferrin. HepG2/C3A cell line is non-tumorigenic in immunodeficient mice. Its robustness makes it highly useful for in vitro drug metabolism, hepatotoxicity studies, bioartificial liver models, and gene expression research. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

HepG2/C3A are widely used in hepatotoxicity, drug metabolism, and liver function studies. They secrete albumin, alpha-fetoprotein, and support phase I/II enzymes, making them ideal for bioartificial liver models, drug clearance evaluation, and toxicity screening. These cells also support metabolic disease modeling and gene expression analysis related to liver function. Their ability to maintain key hepatic functions over extended culture periods enhances their utility in long-term experimental setups.
