HSC-3 Cell Line is from human; Sex: M; Tissue: oral; Profile: Human oral squamous carcinoma cell line with high metastatic potential.
HSC-3 is a human oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cell line established from a metastatic lymph node tumor of a 63-year-old male patient with tongue squamous cell carcinoma. These adherent cells exhibit polygonal, epithelial-like morphology and can be continuously propagated in vitro. HSC-3 expresses epithelial markers such as cytokeratins and demonstrates pronounced invasive and migratory capabilities, consistent with its metastatic origin. The cell line harbors mutations in tumor suppressor genes including TP53, contributing to its tumorigenic phenotype. HSC-3 cells serve as a well-characterized model for investigating oral cancer pathogenesis, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), metastasis, and drug response in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) research.

The HSC-3 human oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cell line serves as a metastatic model for studying OSCC biology, particularly apoptosis, cell cycle regulation, and therapeutic responses. It enables investigation of natural compounds (e.g., piperine, berberine) that induce apoptosis and autophagy by disrupting mitochondrial membrane potential, activating caspases, inhibiting PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling, and triggering Bax expression with DNA fragmentation. These cells also support in vivo tumor growth inhibition studies in xenograft models, providing a robust platform for evaluating traditional and novel anticancer therapies.
