Primary Human Aortic Endothelial Cells were initiated from normal human descending aorta (aortic arch to renal artery).
Human Aortic Endothelial Cells (HAoEC) are primary cells isolated from the human ascending (thoracic) and descending (abdominal) aorta. Following primary culture, these cells are cryopreserved. The cells exhibit characteristic cobblestone appearance with prominent nuclei. During proliferation, the cells become small and evenly sized, and demonstrate high mitotic index, while maintaining purity (α-SMA-negative). Functionally, these cells regulate vascular tone through the secretion of nitric oxide (NO) and prostacyclin, maintain the integrity of the blood-tissue barrier, and mediate immune responses by expressing ICAM-1/VCAM-1, and participate in angiogenesis in aortic endothelium. They are critically implicated in atherosclerosis, aortic aneurysm, hypertension, and diabetic vasculopathy. Cryopreserved at early passage, these cells retain native functionality but should not undergo repeated freeze-thaw cycles to maintain optimal performance. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Human Aortic Endothelial Cells serve as a critical in vitro model to study vascular pathogenesis in diabetes, atherosclerosis, and transplant rejection. Their responsiveness to metabolic stress enables investigation of hyperglycemia-induced Egr1-driven activation and oxidized sterol-triggered oxidative stress, providing insights into diabetic vasculopathy progression and atherosclerotic plaque initiation. They serve as valuable tools for studying transplant-associated endothelial injury and screening potential vasoprotective compounds, which enables therapeutic exploration to combat diabetic vasculopathy, plaque formation, and implant failure, bridging basic vascular biology with clinical translation.
